Position: Electrical Engineer
Reports to: Head/Director of Engineering Department - SHC or their named delegate/s
Main Duties and responsibilities:
The Engineer will form part of an Engineering team. The job includes but is not limited to the following duties and responsibilities:
- Operate, monitor, and maintain critical hospital building services including HVAC, medical gases, electrical distribution, standby power, fire safety systems, plumbing, lifts, ELV systems, and water treatment.
- Respond rapidly to alarms, faults, system failures, and urgent maintenance requests to ensure uninterrupted clinical operations.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance, equipment servicing, calibration checks, and safety inspections in accordance with statutory requirements, manufacturer guidelines, and hospital policies.
- Carry out corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and root‐cause analysis for system failures or performance anomalies.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, equipment histories, permits, compliance documentation, and asset registers.
- Conduct routine inspections to verify system performance, identify risks, and flag potential hazards.
- Liaise with external contractors as necessary for performing technical functions which can not be done with internal staff.
- Assist in energy monitoring, efficiency improvements, sustainability initiatives, and utility usage reporting.
- Uphold hospital safety standards, infection‐control requirements, and statutory regulations across all engineering activities.
- Prepare designs, technical specifications, BOQs, and technical/costing proposals for engineering projects.
- Support concept, preliminary, and detailed engineering planning, ensuring feasibility and compliance.
- Assist with tender preparation, evaluation, procurement coordination, and contractor assessments.
- Monitor contractor works on site, review technical submittals, inspect progress, and ensure adherence to drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- Support project management activities, including reporting, scheduling input, progress tracking, risk identification, and coordination with QS, planning, and clinical teams.
- Participate in testing, commissioning, quality reviews, and approval of completed works prior to handover.
- Provide technical guidance to supervisors, technicians, draughtspersons, and site coordinators throughout project execution.
- Ensure client requirements, safety standards, and regulatory obligations are met across all project stages.
Job Criteria:
By the closing date and time of this call for applications, applicants must have:
• A recognized and accredited Electrical Engineering Bachelor’s Degree at MQF Level 6.
• Warrant to practice as Engineer. (applicants who do not hold a Maltese Warrant to Practice as Engineer shall still be considered as valid candidates, given that they are eligible to obtain the warrant if chosen for the position).
• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience or 3 years experience after obtaining a warrant.
Other pre-requisites:
• Work experience in management of construction projects AND/OR operations and facilities will be considered an asset.
• Proficient in the English language, both written and verbally.

Type of Contract and Salary Range:
Contract Type: Indefinite contract with 12 months probationary period
Salary: An attractive salary package, including allowances and a performance bonus is being offered with this position
